Narendra Modi Conferred Egypt’s Highest Civilian Honour

Immediately after his trip to the United States of America, Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi visited Egypt. On June 25, 2023, he was conferred with the “Order of the Nile”. This is the highest civilian award in Egypt. The award was presented to him by the President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. The award resembles a long necklace. It  is made of pure gold and has Pharaonic symbols on it.

This honour is given to anyone in a political position for their services to Egypt or to the world. On the same day, India and Egypt signed three Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation in antiquities, competition law, archaeology and agriculture. The leaders of the two nations have also signed an agreement to promote the relations between India and Egypt and deepen their partnership through trading and investment.

PM Modi has received several such honours from different countries. This is the 13th highest state honour that was conferred to him. Some of the other awards bestowed on him include the Ebakl Award by the Republic of Palau and the Companion of the Order of Logohu.
