Narendra Modi’s Visit to the US

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently on a trip to the US. He was invited to attend a state dinner with the US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jil Biden. The dinner took place on June 22, 2023. The guest list included 400 guests, many of whom were popular personalities across multiple fields such as fashion, technology, film and music. The state dinner was in honour of Narendra Modi. 

Narendra Modi reached the United States on June 20. The program started on the next day, with PM Modi attending the 9th International Day of Yoga celebrations at the United Nations headquarters in New York. On the same day, he met influential personalities like the Nobel Prize winner Paul Romer, Tesla CEO Elon Musk and astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson.  

On June 22, Narendra Modi was formally welcomed to the White House. A bilateral discussion between Joe Biden and Narendra Modi occurred where the press was involved. The two political leaders exchanged gifts. PM Modi presented a laboratory-grown 7.5-carat green diamond to First Lady Jill Biden. 

Modi also addressed a joint session of the US Congress. He spoke about several issues, such as terrorism, India’s political relations with the US, minority rights in India, the growing Indian economy, and the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI). While addressing the US Congress, Narendra Modi received 15 standing ovations. At the end of his speech, the crowd could be heard chanting “Modi Modi”.

Narendra Modi will be in the United States till June 24.
