National Cancer Awareness Day

National Cancer Awareness Day

Every year on November 7th, India observes National Cancer Awareness Day. This day aims to inform the public about preventing, detecting, and treating cancer.

Cancer is a major global cause of death, and India has more than 1.4 million new cancer cases each year. Cancer occurs when your body’s cells start growing and multiplying uncontrollably and can spread to other parts of your body. It can affect any body part. Cancerous cells can trick your immune system, so it doesn’t fight them effectively.

Cancer usually happens because of changes in your DNA, but certain factors increase the risk. These include using tobacco and alcohol, exposure to cancer-causing substances, certain viral infections, smoking, lack of physical exercise and obesity.

This year’s theme for National Cancer Awareness Day is “Close the Care Gap,” highlighting the need for equal and fair cancer care for everyone.
