National Energy Conservation Day 2023

National Energy Conservation Day 2023

Every year on December 14th, we celebrate National Energy Conservation Day in India to raise awareness about the importance of conserving energy. This day highlights the achievements made by India in the field of energy conservation and efficiency.

Energy conservation includes intentional practices to use energy more efficiently. This ranges from a person’s duty to switch off the lights when not in use to larger-scale actions taken by industries contributing to energy efficiency. The ultimate goal is sustainable energy usage, meaning meeting the current need for energy without compromising it for future generations.

The Ministry of Power started the National Energy Conservation Awards in 1991 to recognise industries for reducing energy consumption. Since then, December 14th has been celebrated as the National Energy Consumption Day. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) organises an event annually where awards are given to individuals and industries making efforts to consume energy and use it efficiently. Painting competitions are also arranged in various schools to educate students about this day.

This year, the National Energy Conservation Day 2023 function will take place in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. President Draupadi Murmu will address the crowd and present awards to the winners. Several other workshops, discussions and debates will be conducted nationwide to increase awareness among the public.
