National Space Day

National Space Day

On August 23, 2023, India made history by becoming the first nation to hoist its flag on the southern pole of the lunar surface with the Chandrayaan-3 landing. India and the entire world celebrated this scientific achievement.

Following this accomplishment, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the scientists of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) in Bangalore who worked on the Chandrayaan-3 mission. In his speech, he congratulated the entire team of scientists. He also mentioned that the success of Chandrayaan-3 belongs to the entire mankind.

During his speech, he also marked August 23 as “National Space Day”. He announced that the point where the lander of Chandrayaan-3 touched the moon will be known as “Shiv Shakti”. The name was chosen to celebrate India’s aim of women empowerment, relating “Shiv Shakti” to “Naari Shakti”. “Tiranga Point” will be the name of the point where Chandrayaan-2 lander left its footprint on the moon’s surface.
