National Space Day

National Space Day

On August 23, 2023, India made history by becoming the first nation to hoist its flag on the southern pole of the lunar surface with the Chandrayaan-3 landing. Not only India, but the entire world celebrated this scientific achievement. From Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk to celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan and R. Madhavan, many famous personalities expressed their excitement at the successful soft landing of Chandrayaan-3 and congratulated the team of scientists of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) for their hard work.

Following the historic achievement, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the ISRO scientists in Bangalore who worked on the Chandrayaan-3 mission and addressed his countrymen and the entire world through his speech. During his speech, he congratulated the entire team of scientists who worked directly and indirectly for the success of the Chandrayaan-3 mission. He also expressed his excitement over the keenness with which every science enthusiast was celebrating ISRO’s accomplishment. He also mentioned that although the mission belonged to India, its success belongs to the entire mankind.

During his speech, he also marked August 23 as “National Space Day”. He announced that the point where the lander of Chandrayaan-3 touched the moon would be known as “Shiv Shakti”. The name was chosen to celebrate India’s aim of women’s empowerment and welfare, relating “Shiv Shakti” to “Naari Shakti”. “Tiranga Point” will be the name of the point where Chandrayaan-2 lander left its footprint on the moon’s surface.
