National Youth Day 2024

National Youth Day 2024

Every year on 12th January, we celebrate the National Youth Day in India to commemorate the great spiritual leader, Swami Vivekananda. This day serves as a way to honour his teachings, and it also emphasizes the importance of the country’s youth in nation-building.

Swami Vivekananda was one of the most influential leaders in Indian history. Born in Kolkata, West Bengal on 12th January 1863, he was named Narendranath Duta at birth. From a young age, he showed interest in the field of spirituality and devotion. He grew up to be a Hindu monk well-versed in both Indian and Western philosophies. In 1893, he spoke at the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago and introduced Indian philosophy to the West. In 1897, he started the Ramakrishna Mission, which he named after his spiritual Guru, Sri Ramakrishna. He passed away at the age of 39 in 1902 while meditating in his private chambers.

In 1984, the Indian Government declared Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary as National Youth Day to honour his ideals and to inspire the youth of the nation. Swami Vivekananda believed that the young population of the country is capable of making major changes. On this day, people are reminded of his great teachings and are urged to take part in the betterment of the country.
