Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Jayanti 2024

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Jayanti 2024

Every year, on 23rd January, India observes Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Jayanti, also known as Parakram Diwas, to pay tribute to the remarkable Indian leader. This glorious day commemorates the life of Netaji, a key figure in the Indian independence movement.

Born on 23rd January 1897, in Cuttack, Odisha, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was a member of the Indian National Congress. He also served as the president of the Indian National Congress in 1938-1939. In 1939, Netaji established a political party named Forward Bloc to unite India against the British Raj. Taking charge of the Indian National Army, also known as Azad Hind Fauj, he earned the title ‘Netaji’ from the Indian soldiers. Unfortunately, in August 1945, Netaji lost his life in a plane crash in Taiwan at the age of 48.

In 2024, we are celebrating the 127th birth anniversary of Netaji. Recognizing his exceptional contributions to India’s fight for freedom, the government officially declared 23 January as Parakram Diwas or Netaji Jayanti in 2021.

Netaji Jayanti is observed throughout India by garlanding his statues, raising the Indian national flag, and arranging cultural programs in schools and colleges. Three states – West Bengal, Tripura, and Odisha – have declared this day a public holiday. This day highlights the courage and determination of this great leader who played a significant role in India’s journey towards independence.
