Nobel Laureate and Li-ion Battery Developer Passes Away

John Bannister Goodenough was an American scientist who made many contributions to the field of science. He invented Li-ion batteries which are made up of an element called Lithium. Li-ion batteries are used in electronic devices such as cell phones laptops, wireless headphones, toys and more. For his many contributions to science, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2019 at the age of 97. He became the oldest person to receive the Nobel Prize. 

Along with the Nobel Prize, Goodenough received many other awards and medals like the Japan Prize, the Copley Medal, the National Medal of Science and the Welch Award. This famous scientist and researcher recently passed away on June 25, 2023, at the age of 100.
