Nobel Prize in Peace 2023

Nobel Prize in Peace 2023

The Nobel Prize in Peace is given each year to people who have shown bravery, stood up for the rights of people who are treated unfairly, and worked to create peace between different groups.

This year, the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize was given to Narges Mohammadi from Iran. She has fought hard to improve the lives of women in Iran and to make sure everyone has their rights and freedom.

Narges Mohammadi was born in 1972. She worked as an engineer and a writer for a newspaper, focusing on making positive changes in Iranian society. She has been arrested 13 times and given a very long prison sentence because she spoke up for women’s rights in Iran. As of October 6, when the Nobel Peace Prize was announced, she was still in prison.

Besides fighting for women’s rights, Narges also campaigned against using the death penalty and torture in Iranian prisons, where many people have been sentenced to death since January 2022.

Because of her courage and efforts to improve the lives of women in Iran, Narges Mohammadi received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2023. She is the second Iranian woman to receive this prize, following Shirin Ebadi in 2003.
