On 11th March 2024, the highly anticipated 96th Academy Awards ceremony took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. The event was a starry affair with the best of Hollywood present under the same roof. Comedian Jimmy Kimmel returned as the host for the fourth time. The Academy released the nominations earlier this year, which was dominated by the four films- Oppenheimer, Poor Things, Killer of the Flower Moon and Barbie. 

The biopic based on the life of American physicist, J. Robert Oppenheimer won big at the 2024 Oscars. Named Oppenheimer after the physicist, this Christopher Nolan-directed movie bagged seven awards. Actress Emma Stone secured her second Oscar in the category of Best Actress for her movie Poor Things.

The singer and songwriter duo, Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas O’Connell won the Oscar in the Best Original Song category. Eilish also won an Oscar in 2022, making her the youngest woman to have won two Oscars at the age of 22!

The star-studded event was televised live on the ABC channel. In India, the event was live telecasted on a streaming platform called ‘Disney Plus Hotstar’ from 4 AM. First started in the year 1929, the Oscars is now one of the highest forms of achievement for people in the entertainment industry.
