Pixar’s Toy Story turns 28

Pixar’s Toy Story turns 28

28 years ago, the fan-favourite Pixar movie Toy Story was released on 22nd November. It was the first entirely computer-animated, feature-length movie. It not only achieved great success at the box office but also received praise from critics for its entertaining qualities.

Toy Story was the first movie made by Pixar, which was then a new company that was hired by Disney. Before Toy Story, animated films were made with a series of drawings that were photographed in a manner to make it look like a video. With the release of Toy Story, the computer-animated movies became a regular part of Hollywood.

Directed by John Lasseter, the film is set in a world where toys come to life when humans are not around. It follows a group of toys owned by a boy named Andy, focusing on the rivalry between two toys, Woody and Buzz Lightyear. The movie received praise from both critics and audiences, earning three Oscar nominations and becoming the second highest-earning movie of 1995. Hollywood stars Tom Hanks and Tim Allen voiced the main characters.

After the incredible success of the first movie, three sequels and multiple other projects were launched revolving around the toys. Toy Story 5 is currently under production and will be released between 2026-28. The Toy Story franchise continues to create its magic with every age group alike.
