PM Modi Receives Bhutan’s Highest Civilian Award 

On 22nd March 2024, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was honoured with the highest civilian award of Bhutan- the Order of the Druk Gyalpo. He became the first foreign leader to have received this honour. 

PM Modi visited Bhutan on a two-day trip, where the people of Bhutan welcomed him with open arms. During this visit, the king of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, awarded him this title. The Order of the Druk Yul is the most prestigious award of Bhutan. The King of Bhutan announced that PM Modi will be given this title during Bhutan’s 114th National Day celebration in 2021. Since it was started, this award has been given to four people. 

PM Modi took to social media platform X to announce this lifetime achievement. He dedicated this award to the 140 crores of Indians. He assured that the relationship between the countries of India and Bhutan will continue to grow. 

This is a significant milestone in the developing relationship between India and Bhutan. The award was given in recognition of “his outstanding contribution to the growth of India-Bhutan relations and for his distinguished service to the Bhutanese nation and people.”
