PM Narendra Modi Reveals the Gaganyaan Astronauts

On 27th February, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) in Thiruvananthapuram. There, he revealed the names of the astronauts for the Gaganyaan Space Mission- Group Captains Prasanth Balakrishnan Nair, Ajit Krishnan, Angad Pratap and Commander Subhanshu Shukla. This space mission will take place in 2025. 

PM Modi also reviewed the progress of the upcoming mission and presented the four pilots with astronaut wings. As per the chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), S Somanath, these astronaut wings were awarded to signify that they are a part of the mission. 

Gaganyaan is the first Indian space programme where human beings will be going to outer space from India. There is extensive preparation going on to make sure this mission is successful. The four pilots are currently undergoing training at ISRO’s Astronaut Training Facility in Bengaluru. Before this, they were training in Russia. After this, a selection process will take place from which the three main astronauts for the mission will be selected.                                                     

During his visit, PM Modi also announced the launch of three new technical facilities. ISRO plans on sending astronauts to the Moon by 2040. The Gaganyaan Space Mission will ensure the success of India’s smooth run on sending humans to outer space.
