Pongal 2024

Every year, we celebrate a special festival called Pongal in the southern part of India. It is a very important festival in the state of Tamil Nadu. It takes place every year in January. It is celebrated by worshipping the sun god. This marks the start of the summer season. 

In 2024, Pongal will be celebrated from the 15-18th January. It is celebrated for four days and each day has its special activities. On these four days, people decorate their homes, pray to the Sun God and light bonfires.

Pongal is one of the largest harvest festivals in India. It is celebrated at the same time as Lohri in Punjab and Bihu in Assam. This festival is named after the traditional sweet dish of Pongal which is cooked with rice, milk and jaggery.
