Ramachandra Guha’s Book Wins Elizabeth Longford Prize

Indian historian Ramachandra Guha’s book titled “Rebels Against the Raj: Western Fighters for India’s Freedom” won the Elizabeth Longford Prize for Historical Biography 2023. 

The Elizabeth Longford Prize is a prize money of £5000 awarded annually for a historical biography published in the previous year. The award is named after Elizabeth Longford who was an English historian, biographer and author. Some of her famous works include “Victoria RI” which was published in 1964 and “Wellington: Years of the Sword” in 1969.  The award was established in 2003. 

Ramachandra Guha’s book tells the story of how the British people who went against the British Establishment during their rule in India were severely punished. The book talks about some of the famous Britishers who settled in India and stood by her people during the freedom struggle.
