Republic Day 2024

Republic Day 2024

On 26th January 2024, we are celebrating the 75th Republic Day of India. India became a republic on 26th January 1950 when the Indian constitution came into effect. The Constitution is a book where the rules of the country are written. This day is also known as Gantranta Diwas.

What is a Republic? A country is called a republic when the leaders of the country are elected by the common people.

In 1930, the freedom fighters of India decided to celebrate the 26th of January as the Independence Day of India. However, as we gained independence on 15th August 1947, the leaders announced this day as Republic Day.

This year, at 7:30 AM, President Draupadi Murmu unfurled the National Flag at Kartavya Path in New Delhi. The theme this year is “India- The Mother of Democracy”.

The Republic Day of India celebrates the spirit of independent India. As a republic country, the voters of India (people above the age of eighteen) get to elect their leaders and participate in the world’s largest Democracy.

From Nutshell, we wish you a very happy Republic Day!
