Republic Day 2024

Republic Day 2024

On 26th January 2024, we are celebrating the 75th Republic Day of India. After gaining Independence from the British Raj on 15th August 1947, India became a republic on 26th January 1950 when the Indian constitution came into effect. Also known as Gantranta Diwas, this day is celebrated with grandeur and enthusiasm by the citizens of India.

In 1930, the freedom fighters of India decided to celebrate the 26th of January as the Independence Day of India before India gained freedom. After India’s Independence, the leaders decided to commemorate the adoption of the Indian constitution and declare India as a republic on 26th January 1950. Since then, this day is celebrated as Republic Day each year.

This year, at 7:30 AM, President Draupadi Murmu unfurled the National Flag at Kartavya Path in New Delhi. Various cultural events and military parades are being organized to commemorate this day. The chief guest of this year is the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, and the theme this year is “India- The Mother of Democracy”.

The Republic Day of India commemorates the spirit of independent India. As a republic country, the voters of India (people above the age of eighteen) get to elect their leaders and participate in the world’s largest Democracy.

From Nutshell, we wish you a very happy Republic Day!
