Royal Bengal Tiger Spotted at Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary

Royal Bengal Tiger Spotted at Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary

After two decades, Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary of North Bengal captured images of a Royal Bengal Tiger in their trap cameras. The trap cameras picked up images of the Royal Bengal Tiger from three different locations in their sanctuary in February, April and August of last year.

This discovery has fascinated not only the Wildlife Sanctuary foresters and the general public, but also caught the attention of the forest minister, Jyotipriya Mallik, who wants to set up 60 more trap cameras to monitor the tiger. The forest minister confirmed that he will be traveling to Siliguri to discuss this matter and look into ways to further develop the wildlife sanctuary. These measures will allow the foresters to check whether there is more than one Royal Bengal Tiger or other big cats in the sanctuary, which have not been detected so far.
