Satyajit Ray Statue in Jaisalmer

Satyajit Ray Statue in Jaisalmer

Satyajit Ray, who is often referred to as the Father of Indian Cinema, has contributed to the field of Bengali literature through his great works like Pather Panchali and Shonar Kella. To commemorate his life achievements and to boost the tourism of Jaisalmer, the Rajasthan government has decided to go forward with the installation of a Satyajit Ray statue. The installation is most likely to be completed by September of this year. This will be the first statue of Satyajit Ray outside of West Bengal.

Rajasthan has been a subject topic in Satyajit Ray’s Sonar Kella, which involves a fort which was previously called Chintamoni fort. After the huge success of the movie, the fort came to be known as Shonar Kella, which means “Golden fortress,” and gained immense popularity in the International Tourism map.

Keeping in mind that Rajasthan greatly profits from tourism, especially from the constant flow of Bengali tourists who are eager to see the forts and monuments, installing a statue of Satyajit Ray would most definitely be another great attraction and drive in more tourists from across the globe.
