Seventeen Product Receives Geographical Indication Tags

Seventeen unique products from the regions of Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, and the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir have recently been given Geographical Indication (GI) tags. This tag is given by the Geographical Indication Registry in Chennai. It shows that each product is unique and comes from a special place.

From Arunachal Pradesh, a wooden craft made by the skilful Wancho tribe received a GI tag. Additionally, Adi Kekir ginger, known for its unique taste and size, has earned its place on this respectable list. The handmade carpets crafted by Tibetan refugees living in the state have also received a GI tag.

From West Bengal, three traditional sarees – Tangali, Garad, and Korial – now have a GI tag. The state’s aromatic Kalonunia rice and the Sundarban honey have also been recognized by the registry.

Meanwhile, Odisha’s food items, including Dhenkanal Magji Sweet and Kanteimundi Brinjal, have secured their spot on the list. The Simpilipal Kai chutney has also received a tag.

From Jammu and Kashmir, Ramban Anardan, a fruit tree has been given the tag. These tags protect the originality of this special regional product.
