The Day Sunil Gavaskar Became the First batsman to Score 10000 Test Runs

On March 7th, 1987, legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar became the first batsman in history to score 10000 test runs. This happened 37 years ago on this day, during a test match between India and Pakistan, in Ahmedabad. 

Sunil Gavaskar is one of the most well-known Indian cricketers of all time. He was given the nickname “Little Master” due to his excellent performance. In his 124th Test match, Gavaskar scored his 10000th Test run. 

Today, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) honoured Sunil Gavaskar on the 37th anniversary of the historic moment. Currently, Sunil Gavaskar is a commentator in the ongoing India vs England Test series. He was presented with a cake in the commentary room. The BCCI released a video of the celebration, where Gavaskar expressed his gratitude, calling March 7th a special day in Indian cricket history.

Gavaskar’s journey to 10,000 Test runs was more than a personal victory. It was a significant moment in the history of Indian cricket.
