The US Open Tennis Championships is one of the four Grand Slam tournaments played annually. The other Grand Slam tournaments include the French Open, Australian Open and the Wimbledon. The US Open comes fourth in order and is the last of the Grand Slam events. The Australian Open takes place in January. The French Open is played around May to June and the Wimbledon is organized in August or September. 

There are five main events in the US Open, which are the men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles. Other events include wheelchair and championships for junior and senior players. The US Open Championship is played on a hard court surface. 

The 2023 Open Tennis Championships was held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City, United States. The tournament began on August 28 and came to an end on September 10. This was the 143rd edition of the championships since its establishment in 1881. Esteemed tennis players like Carlos Alcaraz, Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka and Novak Djokovic were seen competing at the tournament. Due to his hip surgery, Rafael Nadal missed the championships this year. 

In the finals of the tournament, Novak Djokovic played against Daniil Medvedev. Novak sailed to a smooth victory and earned his fourth US Open men’s singles title. He is currently the World No. 1 in men’s singles. Carlos Alcaraz lost his first match at the US Open for the first time in two years. This ended his 12-match winning streak and brought him down to World No. 2. He lost against Daniil Medvedev in the semi-finals. Iga Swiatek exited the US Open in the fourth round after losing against Jelena Ostapenko in all three sets. The women’s singles was won by Coco Gauff.
