Vijay Diwas 2023

Vijay Diwas is celebrated in India every year on 16th December to celebrate the victory of the Indian Armed Force in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. This day led to the formation of our neighbouring country of Bangladesh. 

After the partition of India in 1947, Pakistan was carved out of India from Eastern and Western sides. Bangladesh used to be a part of Pakistan and was known as East Pakistan. Due to political turmoils regarding the national language and other issues, East Pakistan wanted to separate from West Pakistan and become an independent country. Our brave soldiers intervened in the revolution and supported East Pakistan to become Bangladesh.

This day is celebrated in Bangladesh as ‘Bijoy Diwas’ and is a very important part of their history. It is also known as the Bangladesh Liberation Day. 

On this day, we honour the great Indian and Bangladeshi soldiers who fought for the liberation of Bangladesh, and we remember the ones who sacrificed their lives. A very proud victory for Indian soldiers, this day is celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm.
