A virtual G20 Leader’s summit took place on 22nd November where political leaders came together to talk about important world affairs. The meeting was headed by the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.

G20 stands for Group of Twenty. It is an international organisation created in 1999 that promotes economic cooperation between developed and developing countries. India was given the presidency in December of 2022.

The summit was attended by the Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau and the Russian President Vladimir Putin. Leaders of all G20 members, including the Chair of the African Union, as well as nine Guest countries, and Heads of 11 International Organisations, were invited to the virtual meeting.

Leaders discussed the outcomes of the G20 Summit held in Delhi on September 2023. However, the main focus was on the Israel-Palestine conflict and the Russian-Ukraine war. Other than that, renewable energy, climate change, digital health etc were scheduled to be discussed by the leaders.

This virtual summit was announced by PM Narendra Modi during the closing session of the G20 Summit held in Delhi in September. This was the last summit headed by India in 2023 as India will transfer its G20 presidency to Brazil on December 1st.
