World Book and Copyright Day 2024

World Book and Copyright Day 2024

Every year on April 23, people all over the world celebrate World Book and Copyright Day to encourage the habit of reading. Books are the gateway to a different world, a much more colourful and vibrant one. Through books, we can live different lives, travel to faraway lands, and feel the joy of imagination. This day celebrates the magic of books.

Also known as the International Day of the Book, this day promotes reading, publishing, and respecting copyright laws. Often, books are copied and sold without the author’s permission. This badly affects the author and publishing houses. This is why copyrights are important as it allows the author to have the rights over their books.

UNESCO chose April 23 for this celebration because many famous writers, like William Shakespeare, Miguel de Cervantes, and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, died on this day. The idea came from a meeting held by UNESCO in Paris in 1995.

To celebrate this day, you can read a book, visit a library, or donate books to those in need. It’s a great opportunity to appreciate the wonderful world of books and to share it with others. Also to make sure that the copyrights of books are followed, we should only buy and read books that are published under proper laws to make sure that the author’s rights are respected.
