World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development

World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development

Every year on May 21, we celebrate the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development to bridge the gap between different cultures and communities across the world. This day was established by the United Nations in an attempt to unite people belonging to different cultures with the aim of bringing about a positive development in countries all around the globe.

According to the UN, 89% of disharmony and conflicts that occur in the world happen in countries which have very little intercultural dialogue. Intercultural dialogue refers to the honest and respectful interaction between individuals belonging to different cultures. To bring about any long term development, it is important to reduce conflicts and promote healthy interactions among individuals from different cultures. This can only be done by focusing on improving the intercultural dialogue.

The World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development was first celebrated in 2002. People celebrate this day by going to educational seminars, attending concerts, exhibitions and workshops.
