World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development

World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development

Every year on May 21, we celebrate the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development. People living in any country belong to many different cultures. This is called cultural diversity. People from different cultures should interact with each other respectfully and honestly if they want their country to develop. This is called intercultural dialogue. To celebrate the cultural diversity in the world and make people realize the importance of intercultural dialogue, the United Nations has established the World Day for Cultural Diversity and Development.

According to the UN, 89% of problems that occur in the world happen in countries which have less intercultural dialogue. To bring about any long term development, these problems have to be reduced. This can only be done by having healthy interactions among people from different cultures.

The World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development was first celebrated in 2002. People celebrate this day by going to educational seminars, attending concerts, exhibitions and workshops.
