World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development

World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development

Every year on May 21, we celebrate the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development to bridge the gap between different cultures and communities. This day was established by the United Nations in an attempt to unite people belonging to different cultures of the world to bring about sustainable development in countries across the world.

According to the UN, 89% of disharmony and conflicts that occur in the world happen in countries which have very little intercultural dialogue. Intercultural dialogue refers to the honest and respectful exchange of words between individuals belonging to different cultures. Minimizing conflicts and promoting healthy interactions between different cultures is crucial for the long term development of any country. This can only be done if enough emphasis is given on bettering the intercultural dialogue and developing it further.

The World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development was first celebrated in 2002. People celebrate this day by going to educational seminars, attending concerts, exhibitions and workshops.
