World Earth Hour Day 2024

World Earth Hour Day 2024

World Earth Hour is a global event that encourages people around the world to turn off unnecessary lights and appliances for one hour. It happens on the last Saturday of March each year and starts at 8:30 PM. This initiative aims to raise awareness about climate change and the importance of taking care of our environment.

The idea of Earth Hour began in 2007 in Sydney, Australia, when millions of people and thousands of businesses turned off their lights for an hour. It was organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). Since then, Earth Hour has become a big movement, spreading to many countries worldwide.

In 2023, many Indian cities like Mumbai, Kolkata and Delhi, turned the lights off for public places and some temples for 60 minutes to show their support towards the movement.

During Earth Hour, communities organize different activities like lighting candles, concerts, and outdoor events to celebrate. Many famous landmarks, such as the Eiffel Tower and the Empire State Building, also join by switching off their lights. This action symbolizes unity in the fight against climate change.
