World Heritage Day

World Heritage Day or the International Day for Monuments and Sites is celebrated every year on April 18. It was started by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) and was approved in 1983 by the 22nd UNESCO General Conference. 

Since then, this day has been celebrated all across the world to remind people of the importance of protecting cultural sites such as monuments, historical landmarks, archeological sites and cultural heritages. 

ICOMOS gives a theme for every year’s World Heritage Day for its members as well as for those who wish to celebrate this day to honor the cultural heritages. The theme for this year’s World Heritage Day is “Heritage Changes”.
