World Heritage Day 2024

World Heritage Day 2024

Every year on 18 April, World Heritage Day is celebrated around the world. This day shows us the importance of saving heritage sites. It is also known as International Day for Monuments and Sites. It teaches us how important it is to protect heritage sites and monuments to protect world history.

A site or monument is called heritage when it holds a significant part of history. India has many heritage sites, from the Taj Mahal to the Ajanta Caves. These monuments are an important part of our country’s history. To make sure that our country’s history is preserved, it is necessary to maintain these monuments.

In 1892, the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) gave the idea to celebrate this day. Later, in 1983, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) accepted the idea and declared April 18th as World Heritage Day.

In 2024, the theme of this day is ‘Discover and Experience Diversity.’ On this day, several organisations come together to host programs and activities. The main aim of this day is to save the beautiful monuments around the world.
