World Heritage Day 2024

World Heritage Day 2024

Every year on 18 April, World Heritage Day is celebrated around the world to raise awareness about the importance of preserving our cultural and natural heritage. Also known as International Day for Monuments and Sites, this day aims to inform people about the significant role of heritage sites and monuments in protecting world history.

In 1982, the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) gave the idea to celebrate this day. Later, in 1983, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) accepted the idea and declared April 18th as World Heritage Day.

The world has thousands of heritage sites that are an important part of history and society. India is also home to many great heritage sites. From the Taj Mahal to the Ajanta Caves, the history of India is preserved in the walls of these marvels. To make sure that our country’s history is preserved, it is necessary to maintain these monuments.

In 2024, the theme of this day is ‘Discover and Experience Diversity.’ On this day, several organisations, individuals and teams come together to host programs to raise awareness of this day. The main aim of this day is to preserve the beautiful monuments around the world for future generations to see.
