World Heritage Day

World Heritage Day or the International Day for Monuments and Sites is celebrated every year on April 18. This day reminds people of the importance of protecting cultural sites across the world, including monuments, historical landmarks, archeological sites and cultural heritages. Different people celebrate this day differently, from visiting historical sites, to holding conferences and meetings. 

The World Heritage Day was started by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) and was approved in 1983 by the 22nd UNESCO General Conference. Every year since, ICOMOS has decided upon a theme to celebrate World Heritage Day. The theme for this year is “Heritage Changes”.
