World Milk Day

World Milk Day

Every year on June 1 we observe World Milk Day. This day was established by the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) of the United Nations in 2001. Since then every year, this day is celebrated to spread awareness about the benefits of consuming milk. Milk is an important part of a balanced diet. To educate people about this, World Milk Day is celebrated every year.

Many countries celebrate National Milk Day on different dates. India celebrates National Milk Day on November 26, which is the birth anniversary of Dr. Verghese Kurien. He was the founder of the famous brand, Amul and is also known as the “Father of White Revolution in India”. Even though many countries have a National Day for Milk, they come together to celebrate Global Milk Day on June 1.

India is the leading producer of milk in the world, contributing to 24% of the global milk production. This is why India is sometimes referred to as the Milk Capital of the World. The second largest milk producing country in the world is the United States of America.
