World Oceans Day

World Oceans Day

World Oceans Day is celebrated every year on June 8. On this day we educate people about the importance of protecting the oceans of the earth. 70% of the earth’s surface is covered by oceans. Oceans produce at least 50% of the total oxygen that we breathe.

World Oceans Day reminds us to take care of the oceans of our planet. According to the United Nations, almost 90% of big fishes in the oceans have disappeared. When oils from ships leak into the oceans, it causes water pollution and many fishes die due to  it. Due to global warming, the oceans are getting hotter. This is a threat for the animals living in the oceans.

To honor World Oceans Day, the United Nations will organize a celebration on June 8 at their Headquarters in New York. This event will be broadcasted live. It will also highlight the theme for this year’s World Oceans Day, which is “Planet Ocean: tides are changing”.
