World Penguin Day 2024

World Penguin Day 2024

Every year on 25 April, we celebrate World Penguin Day. This day celebrates penguins and shows us the need to protect them. Penguins are unique birds that are found in the southern part of the world. They are very important to our environment. However, with the melting of glaciers, overfishing and increasing pollution levels, the number of penguins is decreasing day by day. This day brings to our attention the need to save them.

An American research centre named McMurdo Station took the first initiative to celebrate this day. On this day, a type of penguin called Adelie penguin starts travelling toward the sea in Antarctica. By recognising this day, people are encouraged to learn more about penguins.

Many zoos, aquariums, and wildlife organisations hold special events to mark the day, Educational talks, penguin-themed crafts, and fundraisers are also organised. People can participate by learning about penguins and supporting projects that help protect penguins.
