World Penguin Day 2024

World Penguin Day 2024

Every year on 25 April, World Penguin Day is celebrated around the world to raise awareness about penguins and the need to protect their habitats. Penguins are unique birds that are found in the southern part of the world. These flightless birds are a very important part of our environment. However, with the melting of glaciers, overfishing and increasing pollution levels, the number of penguins is decreasing day by day. This day brings to our attention the need to save them.

An American research centre named McMurdo Station took the first initiative to celebrate this day. On this day, a type of penguin called Adelie penguins start their journey in Antarctica, from their nesting grounds back to sea. By recognising this day, people are encouraged to learn more about penguins and the environmental issues that threaten their survival.

Many zoos, aquariums, and wildlife organisations hold special events to mark the day, including educational talks, penguin-themed crafts, and fundraisers to support conservation efforts. People can participate by learning about penguins, sharing information on social media, and supporting conservation projects that help protect penguins and their habitats.
