World Poetry Day 2024

World Poetry Day 2024

Every year on 21st March, we celebrate World Poetry Day. Poetry is a type of writing where the writer uses short sentences in a special way. In poetries, words are written in such a way that some words rhyme with one another. It creates many emotions and pictures in our minds.

Did you know which is the oldest known poem in the world? It is the “Epic of Gilgamesh,” which was written nearly 4000 years ago! Poems have been a part of our history for a long time. In 1999, 21st March was declared as World Poetry Day to celebrate poetries.

World Poetry Day is celebrated around the world with cultural programs being arranged. People are inspired to write and learn poetries. It is a day that honours the great poets, from Rabindranath Tagore to Emily Dickinson.
