World Science Day for Peace and Development 2023

World Science Day for Peace and Development 2023

On November 10th, we celebrate World Science Day for Peace and Development, focusing on involving the public in important scientific issues. This day highlights the role of science in society and promotes the use of science for peace and sustainable development.

The initiative to start this day was taken at the 1999 World Conference on Science in Budapest, Hungary. Since 2001, we’ve been celebrating it. Many successful projects, programs, and funding for science around the world, have started on this day. It has also helped scientists from different countries communicate better.

The theme for World Science Day for Peace and Development 2023 is “Building Trust in Science.” For science to shape everyone’s future, it needs to be trusted by everyone. Trusting in science helps us find smart solutions based on evidence to solve the many problems faced by the world.

UNESCO encourages everyone to join in celebrating this day by organising events and activities. By connecting science more closely with society, the day aims to keep people informed about scientific developments and the important role scientists play in improving our understanding of our unique planet.
