World Sleep Day 2024

World Sleep Day 2024

Every year, World Sleep Day is celebrated worldwide to understand the importance of sleep and the important issues related to sleep. This day is celebrated on a Friday before the March equinox. Equinox is an event where the Sun appears directly over the equator, resulting in an almost equal amount of daytime and nighttime at all places. This year, World Sleep Day falls on the 15th of March.

World Sleep Day was first celebrated in 2008 when a group of scientists and researchers pointed out the importance of a good sleeping habit. Since then, the World Sleep Society’s World Sleep Day Committee has organised events to celebrate this day. In 2024, the theme of this day is ‘Sleep Equity for Global Health’.

According to a survey done by Wakefit in 2024, nearly half of the people of India do not get a proper amount of sleep. With the rise in technology and mobile usage, many people struggle to maintain healthy sleep habits. Lack of sleep results in people developing diseases and disorders. How can you make sure to get a proper night’s sleep?

Below are some helpful tips:

  • Avoiding large meals before bedtime
  • Maintaining at least an hour gap between dinner and bedtime
  • Maintaining a regular sleeping and waking up time
  • Being physically active during the day
  • Stop using mobile, laptops or television two hours before sleep

Following these rules, we can make sure that we develop a healthy sleeping habit. We can celebrate this day by learning and educating others about the importance of sleep.
