World Snow Day 2024

World Snow Day 2024

World Snow Day is celebrated every year on the third Sunday of January. In 2024, World Snow Day was celebrated on the 21st of January. This day aims to encourage children to participate in snow-related sports such as skiing and snowboarding. Countries around the world arrange winter sports activities and events in their snowy regions.

World Snow Day was created by the International Ski Federation, also known as FIS- from their official French title, Fédération Internationale de Ski et de Snowboard. This organisation started the ‘Bring Children to the Snow’ campaign in 2007, and in January 2012, the first World Snow Day was celebrated. The main aim of this day is to encourage people to come forward and celebrate the snow and participate in winter activities with their families.

In India, the World Sports Day events are organised mainly in three locations- Gulmarg in Jammu and Kashmir, Manali and Nalhota in Himachal Pradesh.

Since the first edition of the World Snow Day, almost 3 million people have participated in winter sports events such as skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, snowshoeing, and more. One of the main objectives of World Snow Day is to inspire individuals to embrace the beauty of winter and engage in physical activities that promote a healthy lifestyle.
