  World Student’s Day 2023

World Student’s Day has been observed in India on the 15th of October, every year since 2010. It is celebrated to honour the 11th president of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. Dr Kalam dedicated his entire life to the improvement of children’s education and welfare throughout India.

Dr APJ Abdul Kalam was born on October 15, 1931, in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu. He went on to become a renowned scientist in the Indian Space Research Organisation and was called the “Missile Man of India.” He was awarded Padma Bhushan in 1981, Padma Vibhushan in 1990 and Bharat Ratna in 1997 for his work in science and politics. He was elected as the 11th president in 2002 and served for the next five years. His down-to-earth nature and love for educating children earned him the title of “people’s president.”

The theme of the day in 2023 is “If you fail, never give up because FAIL stands for First Attempt in Learning.” Dr. Kalam believed that the students are the greatest assets of the country.  He also authored many books such as ‘wings of Fire,” “Ignited Mind” “Turning points” etc. 

To celebrate the life of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, various schools arranged a range of activities on this day. Quiz competitions, essay contests, and lectures are held to celebrate the spirit of learning. It is a day that honours the importance of education and inspires students to become the future leaders, innovators, and change-makers of the future.
