World Television Day 2023

World Television Day 2023

On 21 November every year, we celebrate World Television Day which highlights the role of television in our day-to-day life. This day celebrates how television has become a symbol of connection and globalisation in the 21st century.

Television was invented by Scottish engineer, John Logie Baird in 1924. It was introduced in India in Delhi in the year 1959. Since its invention, television has served not only as a source of entertainment but also played a vital role in shaping public opinion and influencing world politics.

In 1996, the first World Television Forum was organised where many important media personalities gathered to discuss the growing significance of Television. After this forum, 21st November was declared as World Television Day.

The theme of the 2023 World Television Day is ‘Accessibility’. According to the United Nations, “World Television Day is not so much a celebration of the tool, but rather the philosophy which it represents.” Television has shaped the way people think and even in the growing era of social media, it has retained its popularity.
