World Theatre Day 2024

World Theatre Day 2024

Every year on 27th March, we observe World Theatre Day. This day shows us the importance of theatre as a form of art. It also honours the significant role theatre plays in the field of entertainment.

Theatre has been an important part of human life since the beginning of time. The first theatre performance in the world took place in Greece in the 5th century. The world saw authors such as  William Shakespeare and Kalidasa, whose works developed theatre into what it is today.

To celebrate the art of theatre, the International Theatre Institute (ITI) announced 27th March as World Theatre Day in 1961. Every year, the official page of ITI releases a piece on a great author. In 2024, the website mentions the works of Norwegian writer Jon Fosse.

World Theatre Day is celebrated in over 100 countries. This day encourages governments to see theatre as a way to develop our society, both economically and socially. Also, it inspires young people to join and continue this beautiful art form.
