World Water Day 2024

World Water Day 2024

Every year on 22nd March, World Water Day is celebrated worldwide to highlight the importance of water and tackle the global water crisis. Water is a source of life; access to water has been recognised as a human right since 2010. However, the world is facing many troubles regarding freshwater that go beyond national borders. This day aims to raise awareness about the importance of water in our lives and its diverse role in sustaining us.

The idea to celebrate World Water Day was first proposed at the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro. Since then, it has evolved into a platform for promoting innovative solutions to conserve water. This year’s theme, “Water for Peace,” highlights the essential role of water in promoting peace and cooperation among nations.

People around the globe celebrate World Water Day through a variety of activities such as educational workshops, community clean-up events, art exhibitions, and policy discussions. It gives us a platform to reflect on the significance of water conservation, access, and sanitation.
