World Wildlife Day 2024

World Wildlife Day 2024

Every year on March 3rd, we celebrate World Wildlife Day worldwide. This day serves as a reminder of the urgent need to protect the world’s flora and fauna. It aims to raise awareness about the natural ecosystem’s beauty and needs. With the rise in climate change, pollution and loss of biodiversity, this day provides an important platform to discuss the need for raising awareness and calling people to action.

At the 68th session of the United Nations General Assembly on 20th December 2013, March 3rd was announced as World Wildlife Day. Thailand took the proposal to celebrate this day. On 3rd March 1973, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), an international agreement made to ensure that international trade of wild animals and plants does not threaten their survival.

In 2024, the theme of this day is “Connecting People and Planet: Exploring Digital Innovation in Wildlife Conservation.” This theme highlights how technological development can help preserve wildlife.

The official website of World Wildlife Day provides everyone with the opportunity to organise events to celebrate this day. Countries like Egypt, Ecuador, and Italy have organised special events for this day.
