Yoga Event at Surat Makes Guinness World Record

On the occasion of the International Day of Yoga, 1.53 lakh people participated in a yoga session organised in the Dumas area of Surat, on June 21, 2023. The huge crowd gathered on two stretches of roads and performed yoga. A yoga instructor and LED screens were present at each block of the two streets. This event set a new Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people at one venue to perform yoga. The previous record was set in 2018 when over 1 lakh people gathered at Kota in Rajasthan to perform yoga.

The Chief Minister of Gujarat, Bhupendra Patel was present at the yoga session in Surat. The state government expected about 1.25 lakh people to be at the event. But the Guinness Book of World Records officials confirmed the number to be 1.53 lakh. They handed over the new world record certificate to the state Chief Minister.

Several other political leaders, such as the Minister of State for Forest and Environment and the Minister of State for Home Affairs, participated in the yoga celebration at Surat. Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the crowd at Surat virtually since he is on a 3-day tour to the United States.
