ANIMALS AND THEIR BABIES

Just like us, all animals have babies or young ones. They are small and their mothers take care of them. Here we will learn about the names of babies of different animals.

1. Cat

The young one of a cat is called a kitten. Just like cats, human beings enjoy spending time with kittens. There are more than 60 types of cats and kittens around the world.

2. Dog

A young dog is called a puppy. They grow very quickly and within a month start to bark and bite. Since dogs are common pets, we can also find puppies in people’s homes.

3. Kangaroo

A kangaroo’s baby is called a joey. Kangaroos can only be found in the country of Australia. Kangaroos keep their babies in a pouch till they grow a little bigger.

4. Cow

A small, young cow is called a calf. A calf has strong legs and can walk just after being born. The word ‘calf’ is also used for babies of other animals like dolphins, elephants, giraffes, etc. 

5. Deer

The baby of a deer is called a fawn. A deer is known for spots on its body. Many deer also have antlers, which are similar to horns. Deer can be found around the world. 

6. Horse

A baby horse is called a foal. Just like horses, they can walk and run soon after being born. Horses are known for running very fast. They are used for races and transportation. 

7. Lion

The young one of a lion is called a cub. Tiger or bear babies are also called cubs. Lions usually stay in groups with their young cubs. A group of lions is called a pride.
