Colours of a Rainbow

COLOURS OF A RAINBOW

Sometimes when it rains even when the sun is shining, you can see a rainbow. It is a half-circle of seven different colours! It is one of the most beautiful things to see in the sky. Sometimes rainbows can be seen after heavy rainfall or a storm. Now, let us learn which seven colours form a rainbow.

1. Red

A doctor is someone who looks after the health of people. They give medicines and treat us when we are unwell. They use machines like thermometers and stethoscopes. They work in hospitals.

2. Orange

In a rainbow, orange comes after red. It can be formed by mixing red and yellow colours. The colour is named after the fruit orange. Carrots, pumpkins and the marigold flower are orange in colour.

3. Yellow

Yellow is the third colour of a rainbow. Sunflowers, bananas and corn are yellow in colour. In fact, your school bus is also yellow in colour!

4. Green

The colour green is in the middle of the rainbow. Green can be formed by mixing blue and yellow. Green is found all around in nature. Trees, plants and parrots are green in colour.

5. Blue

When we look at the sky, it looks blue in colour. Even the water in rivers and seas looks blue. Along with red and yellow, blue is one of the three main colours.

6. Indigo

The colour indigo is made by plants which are also called Indigo. The word indigo actually means ‘India’. It is a colour that looks like dark blue.

7. Violet

The colour violet is formed by mixing red and blue together. This colour shares its name with a flower called Violet. Some things that are violet in colour are grapes, eggplants and berries.
